Abingdon Learning Trust and Safeguarding

A collective commitment to the safety and well-being of children and young people is at the heart of our vision to nurture curiosity and support the development of confident, resilient individuals.

Trust safeguarding arrangements are strengthened through a priority focus and collaboration; our three schools and central teams are stronger together – using shared good practice and an open commitment to continual improvement through regular review.

Each of our schools has a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and a Safeguarding Governor and they, together with the Trust’s Chief Executive Officer and Safeguarding Trustee, form our Safeguarding Group meeting regularly to learn from each other, review approaches and identify and take up opportunities to develop new initiatives. The diagram below (safeguarding diagram v4) shows how all parts of organisation come together to protect and support our students.

Recognising that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, we aim to ensure that this is reflected in the way we work individually, as a multi-academy trust and in partnerships with pupils, parents and the local community.

If you have any safeguarding concerns relating to the safety and welfare of a child at any of our schools, you should contact the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead or in their absence the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead – at the school. Links are here: https://abingdonlearningtrust.org/our-academies/

Any safeguarding concerns relating to the behaviour of a member of staff should be immediately reported to the Headteacher. Any concerns about the Headteacher should be reported to the Chair of Local Academy Board governors or CEO.

If you think a child is in immediate danger, this should be reported to Thames Valley Police – dial 999. Concerns can also be reported to the Oxfordshire Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), telephone: 0345 050 7666. If you are concerned that a child you know is being sexually exploited, contact the Kingfisher Team on 01865 309196.
